Founder biography
John Brooks
John Brooks’ fascination with filmmaking began early in life. Growing up in Los Angeles, California, he had opportunities to visit the sets at Desilu Studios, observe location filming on the streets of Los Angeles and later work on Hollywood productions as an extra and stand-in.
While serving as a wildlife biologist and special agent with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, John produced his first film—an award-winning music video—in the early 1980s. After completing a distinguished 30-year career in wildlife conservation and federal law enforcement, and later studying filmmaking in Budapest, he turned his attention to filmmaking full-time.
Since then, John has produced several award-winning documentary films in the United States and abroad. He founded Canis Lupus Productions and Canis Lupus Studios to tell compelling stories while creating opportunities, production resources and a professional home for independent filmmakers, podcasters, artists and other creative professionals.
